While in British Columbia visiting with my aunt and uncle recently, I was impressed to see a large number of Smart Cars on the roads. I understand that these small little hybrid cars - only 8 feet long by 5 feet wide and 5 feet tall - won't be available in the US 'til 2008. It was fun to see them scooting all around on the highways and side roads as we traveled around up there. Like watching a motorcycle with a fancy box cover. Great for squeaking into little parking spaces!
However, I think that the Fitzy family would need a small fleet of them for their family outings! Perhaps they'll come up with little hitches to connect them together for larger families?! Like those railroad trains we used to play with...just hitch one on to the next, all pile in, then off you go!!

I don't know if they'll make it in the SUV-loving US market...but, they were fun to see in action!
Those are cool! ANd hahaha about us needing a train of them!
I am coming down off our summer vacation high, and need to do a lot of catch up reading here!

I am coming of a summer high to.
I think I read somewhere that these cars are coming to the U.S next year. It sure would help if the government gave everyone a big tax break if they used more fuel effect cars and taxed the people more for driving around in those giant Hummers that get two miles to the gallon. Right now, they give giant tax breaks to the people who drive the Hummers and almost nothing to people who buy the fuel-efficient cars

They are cool little cars. I wonder how they handle when a semi blows past them? I think I read that they will be sold in the US in some way next year, at least as rentals in the city.

The Smart Cars are well designed little cars. You see them all over in Germany, where fuel taxes are high, and parking spots are tiny. They aren't just for short people; a six-foot tall friend drove one comfortably to work each day.
The Autobahn is a wild place to drive, so I wouldn't worry about the effect of large trucks passing by. I would, however, worry about large trucks, and large SUVs, not noticing them.
