On December 6, 2006, at home in Palm Coast, FL, congestive heart failure
claimed the life of James G. Anderson (84), born in N.B. Canada on Dec. 30,
1921.
Boston University and the Air Force Third Division, Jim combined his excellent
athletic skills with his personal skills of fairness, firmness and kindness to
become one of the most respected coaches in Massachusetts. His 32 year
employment at Marshfield High School ended with his retirement from education in
1980.
In the summers, from 1950 - 1986, Coach and Mrs. "A" served as
director/owners of Camp Daniel Webster in Marshfield, MA. Hundreds of CDW
campers from over the years will always remember Coach's morning stories and
daily passwords. In 1986 he retired completely and moved to FL to enjoy warmer
temperatures and more golf. However, summers found Jim back in the woods of
Maine as he and his wife tended cabins at Sunset Point in Rangeley. As recently
as last summer, you could still find him splitting logs for firewood for the
cabins.
Jim is preceded in death by grandson Jimmy Anderson, sister Frances
Gilchrist, brothers Irving Anderson, Frank Anderson and Bob Anderson.
He is survived by his wife of 6 2 years Phyllis M. Anderson and children: Jo
(Joey) Johnson of La Porte,TX, Mary Jane Anderson of Holly Hill,FL, Janet
Anderson and Arthur Ellis of Concord,MA, Mike Anderson and wife Flo of Liverpool
NY. His grandchildren Wyley Johnson, Amanda Johnson, Tanner Heath, Eric
Anderson and Craig Anderson will miss his gentleness, good humor and wisdom. Jim
is also survived by sister Phyllis Bridges and brother Charlie Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Jim Anderson to
Florida Hospital Hospice Care

Janet,
I attended CDW in the early sixties. (3 Yrs)
I have many fond memories. Would love to communicate with you.
I still have one of my old Pictures.
I recently visited the site with my father. A lot has changed.
The pool is gone and the house has been restored.
The Gus Gus barn is gone as well.
Keep in touch!
Hey Coach -
One day when I get to where you are
we'll take a dip together
Tim

Janet,
I too, attended CDW from 1973-78, along with my mother Loretta Fredericks, who was one of the counselors! I had such fond memories of CDW, that I had to take my husband there and show him around.
Even the pool had been filled in, the boating pond was much smaller than I remember, and the shooting range had become overgrown, and the cage ball, capture the flag, and mini golf course that Mike built had been replaced with new homes, the memories still came flooding back!
I'll NEVER forget it taking me 1 1/2 summers to earn my SHARK badge, yet making it DW Swimmer level before the age of 10! :)
I just wish I could now find a camp for my children like CDW--that offered so much for so little (cost). Coach and CDW were definitely one in a million!
